Engaging with Risk – CIRIA guidance doument

The new CIRIA guide ‘Engaging with Risk’,  was launched at the Institution of Civil Engineering on the 19th September 2014.  It is free to down load at:

The Systemic Consult team were commission by CIRIA to produce the guide to help practitioners with more of the softer, more complex risk issues that clients, designers and contractors face in developing and implementing construction projects. The issues covered include:

  • Leadership and soft issues
  • High impact low probability risks
  • Discipline control and governance
  • Common language
  • Trigger levels and tipping points
  • Risk appetite
  • Culture
  • Balancing risk and opportunity
  • Uncertainty management
  • Integration and interconnectivity.

The more we study the major problems of our time, the more we come to realise that they cannot be understood in isolation. They are systemic problems, which means that they are interconnected and interdependent. Capra (1996)
